Recently, I met with my book club at The Armed Forces
Retirement Home, Washington, D.C.
Glenna's Book Club came together on a Wednesday afternoon much the same
as we have been coming together for nearly three years now.
Our discussions lingered well into the afternoon that day,
as we enjoyed some delicious treats, and as we revisited the many books that we
have read together over the past several years.
We also looked to days ahead and chatted about some of our summer
plans-family reunions, weddings to attend, and leisure outdoor activities with
friends and family alike.
Our discussions led us to our summer reading assignments, to
include: "Lost In
Shangri-La" A true story of
survival, adventure, and the most incredible rescue mission of WWII, written by
Mitchell Zuckoff, "Unbroken" A
World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption, written by Laura
Hillenbrand, "Gandhi & Churchill"
The Epic Rivalry That Destroyed an Empire and Forged Our Age, written by
Arthur Herman, and "Churchill"
A Study In Greatness, written by Geoffrey Best. When our book club reconvenes in August, we
will have much to talk about, as we will enjoy sharing our thoughts about the
intriguing literary selections that we have chosen to read throughout the
summer.
I have included some
photos of my book club friends-they are indeed "America's Finest!"
Most grateful,
Glenna (Reading Specialist & Director of The Kind Kids Organization)
