For years, my family and I have been making it a point to
stop at one of our favorite places while traveling south on Highway 81-Brugh's
Mill Country Store located in Fincastle, Virginia. We discovered this warm and welcoming
restaurant and gift store by chance some eight years ago, and it has become my
"go to place."
Brugh's Mill Country Store is set in the countryside of Virginia and it resembles a beautiful country farm house with a wrap around porch. On many occasions our family has stopped to dine at Brugh's Mill Restaurant and we have enjoyed fried chicken with all the fixin's. And during those times when our drives up and down Highway 81 have been to service family members and our schedule has been hurried, we have found nourishment with a grab and go deli meal that is also available at this hospitable restaurant.
What makes my visits to Brugh's Mill Country Store fun and
uplifting, is the beautiful gift shop!
Friends and family alike have been the recipients of the lovely seasonal
gifts and jewelry that I have purchased from the owner's unique selection of
offerings. Most recently, we stopped at
this delightful country store on our way to our home in Western North Carolina,
and for the first time I had the opportunity to meet the owner, Penny
Rader. We chatted a bit, and when Penny
learned that I was an author of children's books, she became interested in my
writings. I shared my website,
www.thekindkids.org with Penny and suggested that she take a look. Penny did just that! She then contacted me and asked when I could
get some books to her...Penny very much wanted the two titles "Hearts
Always Open" and "Courage From The Heart" for her very special
gift store. It just so happens that I
keep a stash of my books at our home in North Carolina, because I host book
signings there whenever the opportunity arises.
So, on our return drive to our residence in Alexandria, Virginia, I was
able to deliver copies of both of my books to Brugh's Mill Country Store,
Fincastle, Virginia.
Please enjoy a few photos that I took at Penny Rader's
wonderful gift shop. An associate at
Brugh's Mill Country Store, Jake Deaner, who is a senior at Lord Botetourt High
School, was kind enough to pose for a picture.
I am looking forward to lots more stops at this favorite
place of mine, and to working with it's delightful owner. We are discussing ways that I can perhaps
service her community and share some of the experiences that I have been so
fortunate to be a part of throughout my life!
Most grateful,
Glenna (Reading Specialist & Director of The Kind Kids
Organization)
