Celebrating National Literacy Month With Glenna's Book Club

September is National Literacy Month, a time to encourage people of all ages to select a good book, and explore new worlds.  Having been an educator myself for many years, I have always exclaimed to parents, children, and colleagues, to promote literacy and life-long learning through the love of reading-this will always remain a keen passion for me.  By getting books in the hands of people of all ages, communities of learners can understand the world beyond and how we are all connected.

"Glenna's Book Club," held every Wednesday at The Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington, D.C. campus, recently celebrated a one-year anniversary!  During our weekly and very lively literary discussions that routinely carry on for several hours, the members of our community of learners/book club at AFRH join forces and promote reading on all levels.  This year we have read over a dozen books that have been both thought provoking and most certainly life changing in many respects.  I look forward to years of reading with my friends at AFRH.

"The Communicator," is a publication that The Armed Forces Retirement Home puts forth every month.  Please take a few minutes to read the article that was recently published about "Glenna's Book Club" (Click Here for the September Issue & go to page 6).  I hope you will find it inspiring!  For more pictures from the event follow us to Our Flickr Page.

Most grateful,
