The summer months can be a time for vacationing with family and friends, leisurely days and evenings of exploring new venues, and catching up on reading some great books. For the months of July and most of August, myself and the members of our book club, the veterans who reside at The Armed Forces Retirement Home, have been on a "summer pause." And while we all were having our very own summer fun, we were all enjoying our " tote bag of books" that we had organized for our very own summer reading.
Recently, Glenna's Book Club came together to begin celebrating the love of reading for yet another year! As we reflected on our summer fun, we found ourselves so looking forward to discussing the books that had been a part of our "summer pause." Our conversations about "Unbroken," written by Laura Hillenbrand, "Lost In Shangri-La," written by Mitchell Zuckoff, and Gandhi and Churchill, The Epic Rivalry That Destroyed an Empire and Forged Our Age," written by Arthur Herman were fascinating and often times a reflection on the personal years of military service of my book club members.
"The Perfect Horse," a novel about the daring U.S. mission to rescue the priceless stallions kidnapped by the Nazis, written by Elizabeth Letts is our next treasure to read. We are all excited to learn about the Lipizzaner Stallions-their history and their epic rescue between January and March of 1945.
Being "Back In The Saddle" with my friends, America's Finest," who reside at The Armed Forces Home, and reading and sharing conversations all for the love of reading is just about as good as it gets!
I have included a photo of Glenna's Book Club...enjoy!
Most grateful,
