Family reunions to attend, vacations with friends and loved
ones, and sightseeing in our very own nation’s capital can definitely make for
a busy and fun filled summer. When
"Glenna's Book Club" at The Armed Forces Retirement Home, Washington,
D.C. decided to take some pauses and enjoy travels and vacations during the
months of June, July, and August, we all decided that we would continue to read
and then share our thoughts about the books that we had selected for our summer
reading list.
Just last week when we
came together after a three week pause, we had so much fun catching up on our
personal endeavors, and then jumped right back in to discussing some of our
summer reads. Our meeting lasted for
several hours...a good time was had by all!

several hours...a good time was had by all!As of late, a very generous group of women, The Alabama Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, are donating their "book club reads" to our book club at The Armed Forces Home. We are so grateful to the DAR of Alabama for their kindness and sharing their love of a good book! One of our book club's favorites that found its way to us from Alabama, is entitled, Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe, written by Fannie Flagg. It's a delightful and endearing novel that is both courageous and wise. I personally found myself reading and rereading some of the chapters several times over...mainly because of the fascinating characters and their Southern way of life. I learned a lot from reading Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistle Stop Cafe and this book will hold a permanent place in my personal collection of favorite reads.
This Wednesday, August 22, our book club at AFRH will be
bringing lots of new ideas to the table for discussion. We have all decided to bring a favorite book
and introduce it to our group of avid readers.
If there is one thing that I am certain of, this group of
"America's Finest" will be showcasing some plenty interesting
reads. Most definitely, we will all be a
captive audience during our meeting time...My "Storytelling Friends at the Armed Forces Retirement Home" are a true inspiration to me. In fact, well over a year ago I began to write a book with some of my dear friends at AFRH. Presently, my "Sixth" book is in the process of being illustrated. And, we hope to introduce this beloved book sometime in November of 2018.
