"The Joy of Listening and Learning" Meeting, Olive Rosen

Just recently, while sharing and signing my books at Joint Base Fort Myer/Henderson Hall, Arlington, Virginia, I met an unforgettable person-Olive Rosen.  Ms. Rosen paused to inquire about my books, and to share some of her life history with me.  I rarely pass up the chance to listen and learn; especially, when someone opens the dialogue with, "I am such a lucky lady to have had such a good life, and to have had such an extraordinary husband, Colonel Melvin H. Rosen, United States, Army.

"We're Back In The Saddle" Glenna's Book Club At The Armed Forces Retirement Home

The summer months can be a time for vacationing with family and friends, leisurely days and evenings of exploring new venues, and catching up on reading some great books.  For the months of July and most of August, myself and the members of our book club, the veterans who reside at The Armed Forces Retirement Home, have been on a "summer pause."  And while we all were having our very own summer fun, we were all enjoying our " tote bag of books" that we had organized for our very own summer reading.

"Summer Reading" for children of all ages has been proven to improve kids' reading skills and increase their desire to read.  According to the School Library Journal, those who participate in summer reading programs not only mitigate any summer learning loss, they can even show gains in their comprehension, and further develop their memory skills.
